Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join our Practice as a Medical Secretary, providing secretarial support to the Partners, Salaried GPs, Nurse Practitioners and other clinical staff, as part of the secretarial team.
This role will mainly be based at Brough Surgery but you must be willing to travel to other sites as needed. Working hours will be 24 per week, Monday - Friday, with holiday and sickness cover.
The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced working environment and able to adapt to change easily. You will need to have a strong work ethic and be able to work to tight deadlines. We are a dynamic forward thinking practice and things change very quickly, so you will need to be adaptable.
The role involves patient contact both in person and on the phone, so good communication skills are needed. You will need to have excellent problem solving skills and must have a keen eye for detail.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role are audio
typing of referrals, reports, letters for both NHS, private providers and
also insurance and solicitors work including raising invoices. You will also
be dealing with patient and GP enquiries both in person and on the phone, so
good communication skills are needed.
We are looking for someone who can work
under pressure and who is highly motivated. You will have the ability to work
both independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate will be someone
who can think quickly and use own initiative. Ideally you will have worked in
a GP/NHS setting previously. Experience of audio typing is essential, with
fast speeds and accuracy needed. Knowledge of system one and the e-referral
system would be desirable. Experience of medical terminology is essential.

Processing of referrals and attaching
relevant test results through the e-referrals system.
Filing of letters electronically to provide
back-up of information.
Making appointments at hospitals/with
consultants for patients as requested.
Following up correspondence, referrals and
queries with various providers.
Read-coding of all hospital referrals and
adding new associated features & read-codes to access screen as necessary.
Dealing with requests from solicitors for
copies of medical records including confirming consent with patient and
obtaining correct fee.
Check E-referrals daily for DNAs, rejected
referrals ,cancelled UBRNs and advice replies.
Raising invoices for pre-paid services e.g.
reports etc.
Work safely at all times in accordance with
Legislative requirements and Practice Policy and Procedures.
Dealing with telephone calls/queries from
patients and staff.
Send accurx messages to patients from
system one.
Check secretaries joint outlook email.
Dealing with tasks in relation to patient
care and referrals.
Deal with notifications.
