Halesowen Medical Practice is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly nursing team. We are based less than a mile from Halesowen town centre and 8 miles from Birmingham city centre with excellent links to the midlands motorway network. Our location places us on the boundary of Dudley and Worcestershire council boroughs and our patient population includes patients from nearby semi-rural towns of Romsley and Hayley Green.
We are part of Halesowen Primary Care Network, for which we are the lead practice. Our current nursing team consists of three practice nurses, one Nursing Associate and two Healthcare Assistants. The role will be 30 hours per week over 4 days. This will include Wednesday evening shift up to 8.30pm. Shift times for other days can be flexible.
Main duties of the job
Previous experience in a primary care setting is preferred, however applications may be considered if the relevant skills can be demonstrated. The role will include, long term condition reviews, wound care management, adult immunisations, NHS Health checks, Ear irrigation and other duties to assist the nursing team. You should be able to demonstrate on your CV the ability to cope in a busy environment. You will need to have completed the NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care. The Care Certificate would also be a desirable additional achievement.

Main duties of the role -
- Reviewing patients with Long Term Conditions to record routine measurements, offering disease management advice in accordance with the practices clinical protocols.
- Carry out ECGs.
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Phlebotomy
- Obtaining specimens e.g. urine, and testing as instructed and completing appropriate laboratory forms and contacting patients to follow up results.
- Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses, ensure specimens are labelled and bagged ready for collection with the necessary paperwork completed
- Routine Preventative adult Immunisations
- B12 vaccinations
- Basic wound care/ulcer care and removal of sutures
- Ear irrigation
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
- Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
- Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
- Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
- Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
- Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted, provide lifestyle advice to patients making any necessary referrals within the Practice
- To undertake Extended Hours/Access shifts.
- To undertake home visits for patients requiring care at home.
