RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SALARIED GP AT NVP

Patient Care - Are you Caring and Effective?

In accordance with the Practice session timetable, you will be available to undertake a variety of duties including on site and telephone consultations, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with lab results, queries, paperwork, reports and correspondence in a timely fashion.

The successful candidate will also:

-Take the lead role of responsible duty doctor as part of a rota.

-Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

-Assess the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

-Prescribe in accordance with the BNSSG and Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

-Support other staff such as GP trainees, PCN allied staff, ANPs and nurses with clinical queries

-Participate in proportionally shared Enhanced Access (EA) hours (to be discussed) along with the other clinicians within the business. This could be early starts, late working or Saturday working (prorata, prebooked and fairly allocated.)

- Adhere to governance and Risk Management protocols - Are you/we Safe?

- If needed represent the practice at local or system meetings which could include support for CQC and NHS/CCG quality monitoring inspections

-Adhere to safeguarding requirements and deal appropriately with complaints, incidents and alerts using company systems and policies

-Adhere to all company clinical governance policies

-Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

-Collect data for audit purposes and for compliance with QOF requirements

-Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk.

-Reflect and assess own and team performance.

-Work effectively with other agencies to meet patients needs in a person centred way.

-Effectively manage own time, workload and resources

-Lead or develop leadership skills in clinical areas and projects to develop the practice and enhance offerings to patients operationally and strategically.

-Mentor and provide clinical supervision for a multi-disciplinary team, this may include APs, Nursing and Administrative teams

-Commit to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice

-Meet CPD requirements and keep personal, mandatory and/or organisational training up to date, including any training programme implemented by the Practice as part of this employment

-Support the practice in achieving contractual targets by leading on areas and mentoring staff who also lead on areas

-Support the practice operations teams to ensure that the practice stays within budget

-Potential to participate in opportunities for new or expanding services at the surgery to support the practice development plan.

-Make suggestions and act on ways to improve and enhance the team or practices performance using own, colleagues or patient feedback to promote You Said, We Listened, We Took Action

-Maintain mutually beneficial working relationships with all stakeholders, for example NHSE, CCG, CQC, Local Authorities, LMC etc.

-Participate in the PPG and attend PPG meetings (if required)

-Communicate effectively with other team members.

-Communicate effectively with patients and carers.

Experience

Essential

• Appropriate level of primary care experience
• Sound knowledge of clinical governance, including audit and care improvement activities

Desirable

• Evidence of leadership in current role eg mentoring, leading safeguarding or prescribing domains or responsibility for QOF /IIF domains with evidence of successful outcomes.
• Evidence of involvement in clinical research in primary care.
• Evidence of involvement in training GP registrars and/or training and mentoring Allied health care professional staff.
• Evidence of working with frail or elderly patient or nursing home lead role.
• Evidence of work addressing health inequalities
• Evidence of Quality improvement work within primary care

Qualifications

Essential

• Appropriate level of primary care experience
• Sound knowledge of clinical governance, including audit and care improvement activities
• MBBS or equivalent medical degree
• Full registration with GMC (including GP Register)
• Inclusion on National Performers List

Desirable

• Additional qualifications/training which could include (but not limited to):
• Additional diploma/GPwSI status/special interest
• GP trainer or educational/clinical supervisor
• Medical student teaching experience
• Certification in additional skill eg minor surgery, DFSRH/ LOC (and ability to train others in these.)
• Evidence of leadership in current role eg mentoring, leading safeguarding or prescribing domains or responsibility for QOF /IIF domains with evidence of successful outcomes
• GCP for research training
