Job summary

We are looking for a Health care Assistant to join our existing nursing team. and be part of our wider practice team.

We are a large practice with two branch surgeries, treating patients from many backgrounds, including the students at Oxford Brookes University.

We are a dynamic practice involved in both research and training.

Main duties of the job

You will be involved in

  • BP monitoring
  • Urinalysis
  • Phlebotomy
  • Electrocardiograms (ECGs)
  • Provide lifestyle advice to patients and making any necessary referrals
  • Weight monitoring
  • NHS Health Checks
  • Chaperoning patients when required

You will need to be/have

  • An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality
  • An ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness, common sense and local knowledge, to respond to patients enquiries and requests while adhering to Practice limitations
  • An understanding and acceptance of ones capabilities and awareness of own limitations
  • Seek support when required
  • Enthusiasm to learn and develop within the team
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and determine own workload priorities
  • Basic keyboard and computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills

About us

We are a large team of just under 60 staff, working across three sites but always connected and communicating.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

BP monitoring and home blood pressure monitoring

Urinalysis

Phlebotomy

Electrocardiograms (ECGs)

Hearing tests

Provide lifestyle advice to patients and making any necessary referrals

Weight monitoring

NHS Health Checks

Chaperoning patients when required

Ensure specimens are labelled and bagged ready for collection with the necessary paperwork completed

Ensure clinical waste collection runs smoothly, reporting any problems to the Lead Nurse

Ensure sharps bins are ready for collection

Restocking/maintenance of equipment

Assistance with calibration of equipment

Ensuring safe infection control

Restocking of clinical areas and consulting rooms

Supporting the Nursing and clinical teams
