Job summary

An exciting opportunity is available for a motivated and compassionate GP to join our dynamic team for four sessions per week (Mondays and Fridays).

The successful candidate will provide a wide range of primary care services, including acute consultations, chronic disease management, occasional home visits (typically 0-1 per day) and the review and actioning of results.

This role offers the opportunity to work in a forward-thinking practice with a supportive multidisciplinary team and a strong commitment to patient care and staff wellbeing.

Main duties of the job

Provide high-quality clinical care to patients, including consultations, examinations, treatments, follow-up, and referrals.

Manage long-term conditions, offering advice and develop personalised care plans.

Undertake home visits (usually 0-1 per day) as required.

Review and action tests in a timely manner.

Contribute to practice meetings, audits, and clinical governance.

Engage in continuous professional development and support practice quality improvementinitiatives.

Huntcliff Surgery is a well-established, patient-focused GP practice at the heart of the Saltburn community, serving just over 10,000 patients in a picturesque seaside town. We are proud of our reputation for delivering high-quality, holistic care to a diverse population.

Our clinical team currently comprises 3 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs, 4 Nurse Practitioners, 2 Practice Nurses, a GP Assistant, Senior Healthcare assistant and Phlebotomist; supported by an in-house pharmacist, pharmacy technician and a dedicated prescriptions and data admin team.

We also benefit from a strong wider workforce including ARRS roles such as a first-contact MSK practitioner, child & young persons mental health practitioner, and social prescribers. Alongside this, our senior management team and welcoming reception staff help create a positive and collaborative environment.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

a. The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population

b. The provision of services commensurate with the GMS contract

c. Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance

d. Effective management of long-term conditions

e. Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks

f. On a rotational basis, undertake telephone triage and duty doctor roles

g. Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance

h. Work collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload

i. Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process

j. Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice

k. Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) or the QOF

l. Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required

m. Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the practice including clinical governance and training

n. Ensure compliance with the appraisal process

o. Prepare and complete the revalidation process

p. Commit to self-learning and instill an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team

q. Support the training of medical students from all clinical disciplines

r. Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure

s. Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies

t. Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, always promoting a culture of continuous improvement

Secondary responsibilities

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the salaried GP may be requested to:

a. Participate in practice audits as requested by the audit lead

b. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

c. Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach i.e., root cause analysis (RCA)
