Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly, energetic nursing team. Ideally you will be a prescriber (or willing to undertake the training for this) and hold a specialised interest in Diabetes and Asthma/COPD care. The team are passionate about our patients, we work collectively to ensure we provide continuity of care. We are looking for a candidate that posses a passion and enthusiasm to empower patients to improve the quality of their lives. This role is advertised as full time hours (37.5) although there is an opportunity for negotiation.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be involved with a full range of treatment room duties and management of long-term conditions. This is an exciting position for the right candidate to work with a forward thinking and dynamic team. The successful candidate will provide assessment, treatment, screening, prescribing, health education services and advice to patients on general health with support and guidance from our experienced team of 8 GPs, 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Paramedic, Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician.

About us

Albany Surgery is set in the centre of Newton Abbot, in modern premises built approximately 10 years ago. We have a growing list size of approximately 10,300. We are members of Newton West Primary Care Network and work collaboratively within our PCN. The PCN support team has a lead manager working across the member practices, supported by a team of social prescribers, health and wellbeing coaches.

We are a multi skilled team consisting of: 4 GP partners, 3 salaried GPs, 1 retained Doctor, 2 ANPs, a Paramedic training to become an Advanced Practitioner, Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician, 2 practice nurses, 2 health care assistants, phlebotomist, a social care prescriber and reception and admin team.

We operate an urgent care team, who work closely with our receptionists, paramedic and pharmacists. Education and learning is at the heart of the practice and we train GP registrars, provide medical student placements and teaching throughout the year, as well as mentoring our own staff in their ongoing development. We also participate in medical research.

Desirable

  • Independent Nurse Prescriber
  • Post Graduate diploma or degree (Nurse Prescriber)

Experience

  • Experience of working in a primary care environment
  • Experience of chronic disease management
  • Experience of working with complex and vulnerable patients
  • Experience of working autonomously
  • Wound care/removal of sutures and staples
  • ECGs
  • Venepuncture
  • New patient medicals
  • Immunisations (routine, childhood and travel)
  • Womens health (cervical cytology, contraception, etc.)
  • Requesting pathology tests and processing the results, advising patients accordingly
  • Travel medicine
