Job summary

Redburn Park Medical Centre in North Shields is looking to recruit a friendly motivated part-time Medical Receptionist to replace a long serving team member who is leaving due to retirement. The post holder is to join our administrative team and ideally would have previous GP Practice experience however, training would be provided for the right candidate. The post is 25 hours per week which are required to be worked as two full days and two half days between 8:15am and 6pm. The successful candidate must be flexible to cover colleagues holidays, however there is no requirement to work bank holidays or weekends.

Main duties of the job

You would be responsible for undertaking a wide range of reception and administrative duties and the provision of general support to the multidisciplinary team. Good communication skills are essential. Duties will mainly involve dealing with patients both over the telephone and face to face. Processing of information both electronic and hard copy. Processing of prescription requests. Organise own day to day tasks following practice procedures and protocols. The successful candidate must have the ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure as well as having good organisational and IT skills.For full details please see attached job description.

To provide reception service to practice population.

To work as a team member to undertake administrative tasks and assist the practice team deliver quality health care to the practice population.

3. SCOPE AND RANGE

Responsible for providing reception service and first point of contact for practice.

Provide clerical assistance to enable the practice team deliver quality health care to the practice population. Organise own day to day tasks following practice procedures and protocols.

4. MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Attending reception desk.

Answering telephone calls

Handling requests for appointments, home visits and repeat prescriptions

Opening post

Scanning all correspondence

Arranging patient transport for admission

Liaison with internal and external contacts for patient enquiries

Handling messages for GPs and other health care team members

IT routine tasks- Opening and closing down of system.

Premises security opening and closing surgery. Setting alarm

Word processing, data input, dealing with electronic mail.

Dealing with requests for copies of patients records

Dealing with payments of private fees and issuing receipts.

Waiting room maintenance

Stock maintenance consulting rooms.

Minimal supervision of new staff members in absence of line manager

Light domestic duties in absence of domestic staff

Attending practice meetings or training events (some of which may be outside normal hours of working).

Learn any new tasks of the same grade which are introduced to general practice.
