Job summary

We have an excellent clinical team, who are focused on patient care. We are a training practice with student nurses, VTS nurses, GP Registrars and medical student. All our staff are friendly and will help each other in all tasks.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining our nursing team taking blood and helping to achieve the best care for our patients. You will help in making sure we are compliant with infection control, and undertake stock control for our nurses along with our Nursing Associates.

About us

Our practice consists of:

1 GP Partner, 4 Salaried GP's, 1 long term locum, 1 lead nurse/prescriber and 3 nurse prescribers. 1 Nurse Associate, and 1 Trainee nurse Associate. 1 Practice Manager, 1 Assistant Practice Manager, 1 Care Co-Ordinator, 2 Secretaries, 1 Reception Manager, and 8 Receptionist.

JOB TITLE: PHLEBOTOMIST

REPORTS TO: SENIOR NURSE (Clinically)

PRACTICE MANAGER (Administratively)

Job summary:

Working under the direct supervision of the practice nurses and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the phlebotomist will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients.

Duties and Responsibilities.

Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.

The collection of samples, of blood in accordance with training and procedures

Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers.

Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity.

Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible

Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance practice procedure

Ensuring that the blood samples are dispatched to the laboratory in a timely fashion.

Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues

Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team

Effectively manage own time, workloads, and resources

Team Building

  • Work effectively within the nursing team and alongside the reception/admin team and medical team

Report any clinical or environmental issues of concern and take action to rectify these where appropriate.

Ensure a working knowledge and compliance with Practice Policies and Procedures
