Central Surgery is looking to employ a motivated and committed Practice Nurse to work 30 hours per week at our large 2 site friendly practice.
Our team consists of 5 partners, 3 salaried GP's, ANP's, ACP's, Practice Nurses, HCA's and Pharmacists. We also have a great team of receptionists and administrators. We are a proactive member of the North Care Network and have a further team of additional roles including First Contact Physiotherapists, Clinical Pharmacists, Social Prescribing Link Workers and PA's.
The Surgery is committed to the ongoing development of all our staff and are proud to be a training practice to GP registrars and medical students, working with Hull and York Medical School and the North Lincs Vocational Training Scheme.
We are looking for an enthusiastic qualified nurse to join our multi-disciplinary team; someone who will help deliver a high level of patient care and be a key member of staff.
Main duties of the job
The role is for 30 hours per week but we will consider up to 37.5 hours for the right candidate.
- To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care and services for the practice population.
- Providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team.
- The post holder will ideally be experienced in Diabetes management and Respiratory care.
- Be a registered sample taker, to run regular smear clinics
- The duties will also include all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced Practice Nurse and in addition any roles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate.

- Develop, implement and embed health promotion and well-being programmes
- Develop, implement and evaluate individual treatment plans for acute, non-acute conditions
- Support the clinical team in the development of individual treatment plans for chronic disease patients
- Identify, manage and support patients as risk of developing long-term conditions, preventing adverse effects on the patients health
- Provide routine nursing care to patients as required in accordance with clinical based evidence, NICE and the NSF
- Undertake cervical cytology
- Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations referring to The Department of Health Immunisation Schedule and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions.
- Promote healthy living and lifestyles for patients, signpost to appropriate services designed to support patients to change to and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
- Assess problems presented opportunistically by patients
- Support the minor injuries service provided at the Surgery.
- Able to document Consultations according to NMC guidelines
- Ensure awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral.
- Ability to recognise and raise safeguarding concerns .
- Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines
- Provide a holistic approach to wound care management and implement wound care in line with current evidence-based guidelines.
- Suture removal.
- Undertake ECGs
- Able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
- Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
- Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written).
- Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
- Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration and emergency equipment and drugs
- Patient Confidentially must be preserved at all times.
