JOB DESCRIPTION GENERAL PRACTITIONER
Surgery: Lee Road Surgery, 20 Lee
Road, Blackheath, London SE3 9RT
Hours: 4-6 sessions (as agreed
with the Partners)
Contract: Fixed term 9 months from May
2021
Pay Scale: £9000 and above per session,
depending upon experience
Entitlement: 6 weeks annual leave and 1 week
study leave, pro-rata
Responsible to: The Practice Manager and the Partners

E-consult
Job Summary:
Lee Road Surgery is a 12,000
patient-list sized, well-established, highly-successful, training practice
based in the heart of leafy Blackheath, within 15 minutes of central London. We
pride ourselves on being a friendly, organised and family-orientated surgery,
gaining excellent patient feedback and 100% QOF achievement.
We are looking for a highly motivated,
flexible and reliable GP with excellent communication and clinical skills. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a
growing, dynamic, and forward-thinking team. We
welcome applications from experienced GPs as well as those recently qualified.
Duties:
You will be responsible for providing
personal medical services within the practice. This will consist of surgeries,
specialist clinics, associated administrative work, participation in on-call
arrangements and other such appropriate duties as required. You will be
expected to make professional, autonomous decisions in line with evidence-based
best practice to provide high-quality patient care.
Clinics consist of 15-16 patients with
10-minute appointment slots. A scheduled mid-morning coffee-break for all
clinicians provides the opportunity to catch-up with colleagues. On-call
sessions are scheduled for half-a-day where you will be expected to triage
patients with on-the-day urgent problems.
Extended opening hours run on Tuesdays
and Thursdays and you may be asked to cover these hours, as part of your
sessional work.
COVID-19:
The practice strictly adhere to NHS
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) guidelines, in order to keep patients
and colleagues safe. Full personal protective equipment is available in line
with NHS IPC requirements. COVID-19 adaptations may mean consulting remotely
using the telephone or video consultations, in addition to face-to-face
practice when it is deemed clinically appropriate and safe. You will be
expected to work on-site where possible.
Home Visiting:
We have very few home visit requests
as a practice, and the local federation, One Health Lewisham provide a home visiting
service. You may, on occasion be required to carry out visits to patient in
their own home. The clinician is responsible for arranging their own transport in
order to carry out home-visiting duties. The relatively small practice area
means that most are in short walking-distance.
Team Working:
The practice team are friendly,
approachable and helpful. The post-holder will be expected to work alongside
the other GPs, practice nurses, practice manager, reception and secretarial
staff, as well as external providers including care home staff, district nurses
and hospital teams.
Additional Clinics:
The practice provide contraception
clinics, including implant and coil insertion, minor surgery, GP training,
post-natal and baby checks. The opportunity to be involved in these additional
clinics may be available, upon agreement with the Partners.
Clinical Audit and Governance:
You are required to
participate in and operate clinical governance methods and systems approved by
the relevant Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), e.g. medical audit or quality
assurance initiatives. The Practice undertakes to provide you with copies of all
local CCG policies and procedures, notices of local educational meetings, and
professional compendia, such as the BNF and MIMS.
Safeguarding:
You will be
expected to comply with the GMCs Good Medical Practice guidance on
safeguarding children and adults and keep up-to-date with mandatory training.
Practice Meetings:
If falling on a working day, you will
be encouraged to attend and participate in fortnightly Practice meetings
including those relating to clinical governance issues. These friendly and
relaxed meetings provide the opportunity to share clinical cases and learn from
one another.
Appraisal
Practitioners will
be required to comply with the requirements for annual NHS appraisal and revalidation.
Statutory
and Mandatory Training:
You will be
expected to stay up-to-date with all relevant statutory and mandatory training,
including basic life support and safeguarding.
Health and Safety:
The employer will take all reasonably practical
steps to ensure your health, safety and welfare whilst at work and shall ensure
that all premises or surgeries from where you will provide medical services
under the provisions hereof are fully equipped for the provision of such
services. The employer will ensure the provision of suitable and adequate clerical
and administrative support to you whilst at work. The practice follows NHS
COVID-19 IPC guidelines.
Medical Records Management:
You will be response for medical record management,
including clear clinical note documentation. The post-holder must follow data
protection regulations in accordance with Caldicott principles and information
governance processes.
Confidentiality:
You must strictly
adhere to the applicable GMC Guidance on patient confidentiality.
Subject to the
necessary sharing of information with other health professionals, with the
informed consent of the patient, you are required to preserve the absolute
confidentiality of the affairs of the partners and of their patients and all
matters connected with the practice.
