Job summary

Park Lane Medical Centre is seeking an experienced Practice Nurse to work with and alongside the GPs as part of the nursing team in undertaking and developing the care of practice patients including treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide & renew dressings for patients as appropriate and wound assessment for new or changing wounds
  • To undertake childhood immunisations/vaccinations
  • To undertake cervical cytology screening
  • Removal of sutures/clips
  • Compression bandaging/hosiery and Doppler/leg Ulcer care
  • Administering medication as per surgery protocol e.g. B12, Denosumab, Prostap, Zolodex
  • To provide any other nursing treatments to patients as necessary in line with NMC code of conduct
  • To have an active role, in providing appropriate screening for Chronic Disease Management
  • Advising and instructing patients on the use of their medication
  • Respiratory Care Asthma & COPD, Including Spirometry

  • Ensure treatment room is well stocked and equipped at all times. Report any short falls to the senior nurse

  • To ensure accurate notes of all patient consultations are recorded in the computer record

  • Experience of EMIS, or other, Primary Care medical database

Qualifications

Essential

  • RGN and NMC registered

Desirable

  • Diploma in Asthma or equivalent
  • Diploma in COPD or equivalent
  • Diploma in CHD or equivalent
  • Diploma in Diabetes Management or equivalent

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Caring and professional manner
  • Able to communicate appropriately with a range of people with a variety of backgrounds
  • A willingness to contribute suggestions/ideas to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness of work procedures
  • Ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness, common sense and local knowledge to respond to patients enquiries and requests
  • Strong time management skills
  • Self-motivating- ability to work independently and identify work that needs doing without direction
  • An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.
  • High Level of attention to detail
  • Flexible attitude to working hours and willingness to provide cover for colleagues absences and work overtime should it be necessary
  • Good Level Keyboard & computer skills
  • A willingness to update skills through training
