Job summary
Bute House Medical Centre is a forward thinking and well respected
teaching and training practice in the heart of Luton, Bedfordshire, and cares
for a diverse population of 8800 patients. We are looking for an enthusiastic
and dynamic salaried GP/fixed share partner to join our friendly team to enable
us to continue to provide excellent clinical care. A candidate with an interest
in teaching/research would be highly desirable. The GP Fellowship Scheme
through BLMK/East of England Deanery is encouraged and supported.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will maintain a caseload of patients, ensuring the highest quality of care for all registered patients. A variety of skills with be required to deal with a large range of health needs across a primary care setting.
In accordance with the Practice rota, with prior agreement, the post holder will undertake varies duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, home visits, checking and signing repeat and acute prescription requests as well as dealing with paperwork and correspondence.
We provide clinical cover including palliative care to a nursing home.
Home visit rates are relatively low. We are a friendly practice with an
open-door policy for guidance and support.
About us
Bute House Medical Centre is a growing practice. Our
team currently consists of 5 GP Partners, 1 Salaried GP, 2 nurses, 2 HCA, 1 pharmacist, a mental
health link worker, a social prescribing navigator, a MDT co-ordinator and a
supportive admin and management team. We are part of Hatters Health Network
PCN. We are the lead practice for our PCN and also provide education and
training to PCN staff including clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technicians,
physician associates and health & wellbeing
coaches.
We hold virtual clinical meetings each week, in addition to monthly MDT, Mental Health and Palliative Care meetings. We are a training practice with all of the partners being Trainers. We provide training to GPSTs, medical students from Cambridge University, and pharmacists for their prescribing qualifications. We are also Research Active.

The post-holder

registration, MRCGP, placement on the National Performers List, full UK driving
licence, Enhanced DBS check, annual appraisal and necessary indemnity are
essential conditions of employment.
As a
key member of the clinical team you will provide primary healthcare services to
patients in all clinical settings in addition to actively participating in
practice development activities including clinical and staff meetings, audits
and relevant CPD. In addition you will be expected to participate in the
practices activities relating to its function as a training practice.
If
you are keen to expand your career portfolio and specialise in a certain area
we would be supportive and consider whether this would be of benefit to our
practice development plans. The post-holder will be required to work from any
future practice sites as well as the base site.
Clinical
Responsibilities:
- In
accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will
make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including
surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting
patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing
with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
- Making
professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems,
whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the
organisation
- Assessing
the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed
problems
- Screening
patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
- In
consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease
management protocols, developing care plans for health
- Providing
counselling and health education
- Recording
clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
- Collecting
data for audit purposes
- Compiling
and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding
hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
- Prescribing
in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically)
whenever this is clinically appropriate
- In
general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal
duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary
care.
Other

of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g.
prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
- A
commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best
practice

appropriate.
