Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced part-time Medical Coder to join our team, ideally working around 20 hours per week.

You will be responsible for compiling comprehensive and chronological medical summaries from patient records and entering these into the clinical system in line with Good Practice guidelines. The successful candidate will become an integral part of our wider clinical administrative team, contributing to high quality data management across the practice.

We offer flexible working arrangements, with the ability to work both onsite at the surgery and from home. In return, we are looking for someone who can offer flexibility in their working approach, adapting to practice needs as required

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

Reviewing patient records and accurately producing a summary of their medical history

  • Applying strong knowledge of medical terminology

  • Supporting other staff in understanding the importance of accurate coding

  • Accurately read coding data on SystmOne

  • Identifying relevant clinical information in patient correspondence, coding appropriately, and completing associated actions

  • Monitoring progress of summarising to ensure practice targets are met

  • Reviewing and processing clinical letters in line with practice protocols

  • Filing and storing records as required

  • Actioning incoming emails and mail in a timely manner

  • Inputting and extracting data to support practice reporting

  • Compile comprehensive and chronological medical summaries using Good Practice guidelines

  • Utilise clinical coding systems such as SystmOne (experience with EMIS also considered)

  • Apply previous experience from a clinical or coding related setting
