Job summary

Goldington Avenue Surgery in Bedford, is hiring a receptionist for 4 mornings a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) from 8am to 1pm.

Our reception team are a key part of our practice team, and are the first point of contact with our patients. Typically we have a very good relationship with our patients, and are rated highly in the annual patient satisfaction survey, and this is something we are keen to maintain despite the challenges presented currently by Covid-19.

We embrace new technology, and now have access to video consultations and online consultations, and you will learn to help patients use these new tools effectively.

During this more challenging time, Covid-19 has caused us to have to work differently, and you will need to be adaptable to change while maintaining clear and accurate patient communication.

As result of all of the above, communication skills are key, as is the ability to adapt to new circumstances, and remain calm under pressure.

Main duties of the job

Day to day the role will vary significantly, and no two days are the same.

While we are working differently due to Covid-19 we are not seeing patients in the practice as we would do under more normal circumstances, so our contacts are mainly over the phone. So a lot of your time will be taking calls from patients where they are seeking contact with a GP or Nurse, and making the appropriate appointment (depending on the protocols we have in place).

In addition to this you will be calling patients back with information, as well as registering new patients, setting up online access, texting forms, talking them through how to do video consultations, and how to do an online consultation.

The role is very varied, and typically once the core activities of reception have been fully mastered then we would move on to other aspects to broaden out your skillset.

In terms of skills, this role is principally about good communication (verbal and written), the ability multitask, and good teamwork.

Goldington Avenue Surgery is responsible for just under 11,000 patients and has 8 Partners, and a further 25 staff.

We are based in Bedford, around half a mile from the town centre, and look after patients in and around Bedford and the surrounding villages.
