Job summary

  • Health Care Assistant
  • Borough Road & Nunthorpe Medical Group is a friendly, patient focused teaching practice based across two sites in central Middlesbrough and Nunthorpe caring for 16,000 patients. Working under the supervision of the clinical management team and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will be fully trained in phlebotomy, ECG testing, ear syringe, blood pressure monitoring, diabetic pre assessments (including foot checks) NHS health checks and wound care.

Experience in providing Seasonal Flu, Pneumonia, Shingles and B12 vaccinations would be advantageous but not essential as full training will be provided.

You will be caring, compassionate, enthusiastic, motivated and committed to provide only the very best in patient care.

Good IT skills are essential.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within your scope of practice to the patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist the clinical team in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

The following are core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant

Undertake new patient health checks

Support health promotion programmes

Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately in the clinical system

Blood Pressure monitoring

Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required

Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics

Carry out BMI checks as directed

Act as a chaperone as required

Undertake venepuncture

Deliver Influenza, Pneumonia, Shingles and B12, ( training can be provided)

Carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse (training can be provided)

Carry out ECGs as requested

Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation

Provide support during minor operations as required

Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session

Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy

Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
