As a Dispensary Assistant at Evelyn Medical Centre, you will play a key role in supporting the safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of medication to our patients. Working closely with the Dispensary Manager and wider clinical team, you will help ensure that our dispensary runs smoothly, compliantly, and with a strong focus on patient care.

This is a hands-on and rewarding role that requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards. You'll be part of a supportive and dedicated team, contributing to the health and wellbeing of our local community.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a proactive and reliable Dispensary Assistant to join our team. You will be responsible for processing prescriptions in line with practice policy and current legislation, while supporting the Dispensary Manager in delivering a high standard of service.

This role involves direct patient interaction, stock management, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. You will also contribute to the wider goals of the practice by supporting audits, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Dispensing & Patient Support

  • Dispense medications safely and accurately to eligible patients.
  • Check all medicines dispensed to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide clear and helpful advice to patients on prescription matters.
  • Process prescription requests received via email, online, and in person.
  • Prepare and manage Dossett boxes for patients requiring monitored dosage systems.

Stock & Compliance

  • Maintain appropriate stock levels and assist with reordering.
  • Receive and store deliveries, ensuring cold chain protocols are followed.
  • Ensure controlled drugs are dispensed and recorded in line with policy.
  • Safely dispose of returned or expired medications.
  • Keep the dispensary clean, safe, and well-organised at all times.

Administrative Duties

  • Collect prescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocols.
  • Process repeat prescriptions in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure appropriate coding of all activities.
  • Assist with monthly returns and reporting as directed by the Dispensary Manager.
  • Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives.

Team Support & Development

  • Provide guidance to trainee dispensary staff and students as needed.
  • Stay up to date with relevant guidance (e.g., NICE, CQC) to ensure best practice.
