An
exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time (24 to 30 hours per week)
Practice Nurse to join our friendly, supportive and innovative
GP practice, working from Moss Valley Medical Practice in Eckington.
The successful candidate will
work as part of the Primary Health Care Team in providing skilled nursing care to the practice population and to work within the scope of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. The Practice Nurses participate in general clinical care, health promotion and chronic disease management.
Main duties of the job
Ideally we are looking for someone who has experience in the following areas, although not essential as training will be provided:
- Chronic Disease management inc. Diabetes, Asthma & COPD
- Hypertension management, ECG and Spirometry
- Wound management
- Ear Syringing
- Routine immunisations / childhood immunisations
- Health Promotion
- Contraception
- Anticoagulation
- Cytology
- Travel consultations, vaccinations and advice

Job responsibilities
- To undertake the general duties of a practice nurse - assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
- To providing appropriate treatment to the practice population in accordance with Practice policies and procedures
- Undertake treatment room duties, as required
- Maintain infection control standards
- Cytology
- Contraception
- Anticoagulation
- LD Health checks
- Wound care / ulcer care
- Removal of sutures
- New patient medicals / urinalysis
- Travel clinic
- ECGs & 24hrs BP
- Asthma / Peak flow readings / Spirometry
- CDM review ie diabetes, asthma etc.
- Ear syringing
- Routine immunisations / childhood immunisations
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture swabs
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
- Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
- Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
- Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
- Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
- Undertaking home visits
- Supervision / mentoring of junior nursing team
