An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Secretary to join our Practice team at The Valleys Medical Partnership, with surgeries in Eckington and Dronfield in North East Derbyshire.
Main duties of the job
As Medical Secretary you will be responsible for undertaking a wide range of secretarial and administrative duties in a timely manner; processing referrals and incoming patient data, liaising with external agencies such as secondary care and community services, utilising the electronic referral service (ERS) and updating the medical record system (SystmOne), as appropriate.
Ideally you should have experience of working in a GP Practice, or the wider NHS. You will be a team player with good keyboard skills and good attention to detail.

Patient Referrals
- Process referrals utilising local referral pathways ie electronic referral system (ERS), as appropriate
- Audio typing referrals and reports utilising digi-dictation software
- Liaising with external agencies such as hospital and community services, ensuring referrals are processed efficiently
Secretarial and Administrative Duties
- Provide an efficient word processing service for the GPs and wider Practice Team, as required. This includes typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, minutes etc in an accurate manner
- Deal with queries from the Practice team, patients, hospital providers and outside agencies
- Utilise the medical record system (SystmOne) to process patient data
Process Patient Information
- Process patient correspondence within the medical record system via workflow and code, as appropriate
- Working to Practice Protocols, read code data in SystmOne
- Process results and update medical records, in line with local policies/procedures
- Dealing with tasks allocated to the Secretarial team
- Monitoring the generic email and dealing with relevant queries efficiently
- Process and distribute incoming post / patient information, as appropriate
