General Practice Nursing is a hugely rewarding area of nursing. You will help people manage their own conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease. You will help patients stay well and promote healthy lifestyles whilst also assessing, screening, and treating people from small children to the elderly.

We are looking for a General Practice Nurse to join our dynamic forward-thinking team.

You dont need previous experience in General Practice Nursing as full training will be available.

You will need a valid NMC PIN and you must already be a registered general nurse to apply.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a team player, with a flexible approach to work, keen to learn and willing to undergo the training as stated below:

  • You will be required to enrol on the Fundamentals of General Practice Nursing course at De Montfort University, Leicester commencing September 2020.

  • Your face to face learning will be approximately one day per week (at DMU). You will be supported by the practice team to meet the skills and competencies set by this accredited course which takes around 9 months to complete and is fully funded.

  • Your role will develop over 18 months and we expect you will be offered permanent employment after completing the scheme.

  • You will need the commitment and drive to meet the requirements of this challenging course and the ability to be flexible in working in a team of supportive, knowledgeable nurses and GPs. In return you will acquire a variety of skills and knowledge and contribute to caring for our registered population of patients.

About us

You will be employed by The Valleys Medical Partnership, working from Moss Valley Medical Practice in Eckington and Gosforth Valley Medical Practice in Dronfield. We are a forward thinking and well respected training practice operating over two sites, serving a population of 12,500 patients in Eckington and Dronfield, North East Derbyshire.

This role is being advertised with the support of Health Education Englands GPN Ready Scheme, which aims to support newly registered nurses in employment in General Practice during the first 18 months of their career. This role is to develop and deliver high quality patient care to meet the holistic health care needs of a practice population.

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of practice nursing services care to the population the practice serves. Supported by senior nurses within the practice, they will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring long-term conditions, and engaging in health prevention and screening activities. They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.

  • Hold (or about to be awarded) a first level degree in nursing

  • - Experience of multi-skilled approach to Chronic Disease Management
  • - Using electronic healthcare records systems

Desirable

  • - Having worked with other members of the Primary Care Team (Community Pharmacists, Dieticians etc.)
  • - Minor illness management
  • - Triage in healthcare
  • - Participation in research
  • - Knowledge and understanding of current national developments and trends in health care
