Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and enthusiastic part time practice nurse to join our highly effective and friendly practice team working 24 hours over 3 days.

The successful candidate will be joining our team of 3 Practice Nurses, 2 ANPs, 3 HCAs and 8 GPs who are supported by a large administrative team.

The ideal candidate will be registered with the NMC and have experience of working in GP practice setting.

The closing date is 23rd June and interviews will be held as soon as possible after the closing date. The preferred method of application is the NHS jobs application, though we will also accept applications made via CV.

Main duties of the job

Being a Practice Nurse will give you the opportunity to have a variation in your working week.

Some of the duties include:

  • Cervical Smears
  • Chronic Disease Management including; diabetes, hypertension, CHD, asthma, COPD.
  • Immunisations (eg. Travel / Childhood / Flu / Covid )
  • Family planning

Sett Valley Medical Centre is a semi-rural 3 partner practice caring for approx. 10,000 patients, situated in the High Peak of Derbyshire, on the edge of the Peak District National Park, close to Stockport with excellent road and rail links to Manchester.

We are based in a purpose-built surgery, with an outstanding CQC grading, and our ethos is to deliver high-quality medical care through our comprehensive, highly skilled team members.

We have a strong and active patient participation group, and good community health care links. The surgery is paper light and uses EMIS Web.

Job Summary:

To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team

Job Responsibilities:

Professional:

  • Assessing problems presented opportunistically by patients, dealing with minor illness.
  • Able to document Consultations according to NMC guidelines
  • Chronic disease management
  • Offer family planning and cervical cytology
  • Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions.
  • Provide a holistic approach to wound management and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines.
  • Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
  • Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
  • Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
  • Running well person clinics and health promotion programmes by providing a holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise.
  • To set up and run specialist clinics as appropriate.
  • Follow agreed clinical protocols.
  • Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice to patients prior to travel including; vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection.
  • Ensure awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures.
  • Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written).
  • Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration and emergency equipment.
