Job summary
The role of Medical Secretary is to provide
secretarial support to the Deputy Operations Manager, GP’s and other member of
the Primary Health Care Team.
The post holder will provide a high
standard of communication in daily contact with patients and all members of the
Primary Health Care Team.
Specific and general duties/tasks are
described overleaf. This list is not comprehensive, but intended as a guide to
the work expected of the post holder. The usual place of work will be Weelsby
View Health Centre. In addition, the post holder may be required to attend
‘Time-in’ sessions and other specified events as part of their personal
development. All working conditions are supplied in the Practice Induction
Package. The post holder will be expected to adhere to the Health and Safety
regulations of the Practice. The post holder must be aware of the Practice
requirement for confidentiality at all times.
Main duties of the job
Key job responsibilities
To provide an efficient audio, copy typing and word processing service for GPs and Health Professionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, etc in an accurate and quality manner.
Use of the e-Referral Service system where appropriate; to assist in referral of patients to one or more hospital(s) of their choice which includes sending out relevant documentation to the patient.
Informing GP’s of new services available in secondary care.
To make hospital appointments, bookings and admissions as required
To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to deal with appropriate queries.
To scan hospital correspondence/reports to the patient record and action as required.
To forward requests for information to the accounts team and request invoices.
Manage incoming emails from secondary care and other health care professionals.

- NVQ Level 2 in business administration or customer service European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
