Job responsibilities
A SHP
Caretaker will use their knowledge and understanding of basic carpentry,
electrical, plumbing and decorating to;
Understand
and demonstrate the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace.
Comply with organisational safety,
policies and procedures and identify hazards to reduce them.
Consider safety compliance with a
diverse sector of patient groups.
Understand and demonstrate the
importance of working safely at height.
Carry out repairs to the fabric of a
building, for example repairs to walls, doors, doorframes, skirting boards or
plaster damage to internal walls.
Understand and maintain plumbing and
drainage systems, for example repairs to WC systems, leaking taps or water
testing and unblocking drains dependant on the job and competence.
Maintain high levels of water hygiene
within a building.
Understand and maintain electrical
distribution, safe repair of electrical installation to legal requirements,
for example replacing damaged sockets, plugs, lighting and fuses.
Understand and maintain plant, safety
systems and equipment.
Demonstrate and implement energy,
environment and sustainable practices.
Understand and maintain grounds and
external fabrication of a building, such as drainage and guttering.
Understand and demonstrate the safe
use of hand tools, for example screwdrivers, power drills, pliers, paper
strippers and a variety other tools used in plumbing and carpentry.
Demonstrate and understand the
importance of the control of resources and stock.
Understand and demonstrate the
principles of Planned Preventative Maintenance.
Carry out repairs and reactive
maintenance.
Understand the importance of customer
service.
Record and report information
accurately either internally or externally.
Upkeep and general care of the SHP Estates.
Carrying out minor repairs to property,
fixtures, fittings and equipment, which are not beyond the scope of an
unskilled handyman.
Drawing the attention of the Governance
department , to any repairs or maintenance work, which is beyond the
competence and responsibility of Caretaking staff
Directing workmen and contractors to the sites
of repair and maintenance work and inspecting the work of contractors where
there is a requirement to sign a satisfaction note.
General porterage duties and moving of
furniture.
Assisting Colleagues with simple tasks as
requested.
Checking damage/security every morning on
arrival at the premises.
Preparation of meeting rooms for functions as
required.
Receive and check goods and supplies and take
them to the appropriate place for storage.
Ensure that all refuse is disposed of promptly
and stored away from the main building.
Ensure that clear passage is maintained on fire
escape routes.
Test fire alarms weekly. Maintain test
register.
Report any defects of building, furniture,
fittings and equipment to the Governance team
Grounds Maintenance.
Regular check of roofs for pooling, debris,
plant growth etc.
Regularly check and clean soffits, bargeboards
and external lights.
Keep all hard surfaces free of moss and weeds.
Disinfect drains and dustbins regularly.
Make safe any hazards and ensure that the area
is cordoned off.
Keep paths and entrances free of ice and snow
to ensure the safety of patients and colleagues.
Security
. Administering CCTV system.
Setting of alarm system.
Responding to, and resetting of, the alarm,
liaising with the police and alarm company.
Checking
and securing the premises subsequent to out of hours intruder alarm
activation.
Register
as main Key Holder and be the first point of contact in an emergency callout
situation.
Overall
security of the premises including the locking of all windows, doors and
gates.
You may
be called out at unsociable hours or at weekends to deal with security
problems, make emergency repairs or allow access to any contractor who may be
working on the site.
Straightening furniture and general tidying up of designated areas.
Meet regularly with the service delivery
managers regarding Health and Safety issues and Building Maintenance.
Meet the Governance team to identify and manage
any regulatory statutory requirements for the estates including Legionella,
infection control, health and safety and key lines of enquiry relating to
patient and staff safety in the workplace.
Undertake
regular periodic checks & maintain accurate site maintenance records
& risk assessments for: asbestos visual check, weekly fire alarm call
point tests, and water temperature tests, first aid box checks, emergency
lighting tests, and fire door checks,
Operation
of fire exits, fire extinguisher tests, ladder checks, PAT tests &
equipment condition checks.
Must
be numerate and IT literate for the purpose of communications and recording
of information with the systems used to complete the contracted tasks i.e.
Helpdesk system and email.

Health and Safety
To comply with the Health and
Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
To take responsibility for their
own health and safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their
own acts or omissions.

Governance
To work within the Clinical
Governance Framework of the practice, incorporating Risk Management and all
other quality initiatives and all aspects of CQC implementation.
Confidentiality
To maintain confidentiality of
information relating to patients, clients, staff and other users of the
services in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations 2018
including outside of the work environment.
Any breach of confidentiality may render an individual liable for
dismissal and/or prosecution.
Safeguarding
Whilst in post, staff are
expected to acquire and update their knowledge on safeguarding as per the
intercollegiate document requirements and SHP policies.
Professional development
The post holder will participate
in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this
employment
To participate in an annual
individual performance review, including taking responsibility for
maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development
General
To undertake any other duties
commensurate with the role, within the bounds of their own competence as
guided by the attached management framework.
To work across the various SHP
sites as required.
In light of national policy and
due to the needs of the business it may be necessary for the Partnership to
alter the opening hours of the surgeries.
This could incorporate different opening hours and weekend working
which may affect when you are required to work. The post holder is expected to be flexible
and accommodating, following consultation, in terms of any changes to
operating times in the future.
