premises.
Must have experience of working with the public.

PRACTICE PROFILE
Market Street Health Group is
situated in Newham, one of the poorer areas of London. Newham is a multiracial area
with 50% of the population being from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
We are one of the larger
practices in Newham with over 12 thousand patients, 7 GPs, 2 doctors in training. A nursing team of 3 including 2 Health Care Assistants.
The clinical team is supported
by the Practice Manager, a team of 8 Receptionists and a Reception Manager, 2 secretaries managed by
a Senior Secretary, a Medical Records Clerk, 2 Administrators and a Facilities
Manager. We also have admin apprentices.
We are a training practice for GPs and also do a programme of primary
care undergraduate teaching of medical students.
We are in very pleasant
purpose built premises. We use EMIS web for
our clinical system.

JOB TITLE: Medical
Receptionist
HOURS Afternoon 1/1:30 6/6:30pm
RESPONSIBLE TO: Reception Manager
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Practice Manager
PURPOSE OF JOB:
To provide a smooth, punctual, effective and efficient
reception service
MAIN DUTIES:
1. To be polite and
courteous to patients at all times presenting a positive image of the surgery
and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
2. To receive and
direct patients on arrival explaining surgery procedures as necessary.
3. To operate the
practice computerised appointments system recording attendances, cancellations,
DNAs and any other changes promptly
4. To operate the
telephone system, answering, transferring calls and taking messages as required
for the whole primary care team.
5. To deal with the
post including letters and results as required and file patient records and
their contents efficiently.
6. To ensure
adequate supplies of stationery in reception area and doctors rooms.
7. To ensure that prescription
pads and medical certificates are secured at night.
8. To ensure that
out of hours telephone arrangements have been made and working before leaving
the building.
9. To participate in
rotas and follow practice procedures for patients:
a)
requesting repeat prescriptions
b)
requesting investigation results
c)
requesting to register
d)
requesting to see the doctor on the same day
e)
changing personal details e.g. name/address
f)
booking an ambulance
g)
requesting a home visit
h)
receiving and accounting for money paid at Reception
for letters/forms etc
i)
Booking Interpreters
10. To work as part
of the receptionist team covering for team members as appropriate and as agreed
with the Receptionist Manager. To attend and contribute to team meetings.
11. To liaise with
patients, chemists, hospitals, social services and nursing homes when
necessary.
12. To keep the whole
reception area tidy and participate in all procedures to maintain security of
the premises. You may be required to help in opening up and locking up the
surgery.
13. To make tea and
coffee as necessary.
14. To perform other
clerical or administrative duties that may be required.
