Probus Surgery is looking for a GP to join our friendly and dynamic team as a salaried GP to work up to 8 sessions a week.

Probus Surgery is situated in the rural village of Probus within an easy commute of Truro. Although a rural surgery, it is a very dynamic practice with the adjoining Probus Surgical centre. We are a training practice and have fortnightly educational sessions for the full team. We also have a modern MDT approach to duty sessions, working alongside paramedics, ANPs and pharmacists, whilst striving to maintain a rural community GP feel with prebookable clinics and continuity of care.

The successful candidate will need to be able to manage a wide range of health needs whilst providing the highest level of care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

Mixture of weekly duty session and prebookable clinics that involve face to face and telephone appointments

Admin which includes Workflow / Tasks / emails/ pathology / paperwork / Prescriptions /drug or safety alerts / Queries

Triage and treat patients, performing specialist assessment of their needs and make referrals as necessary to other members of the primary and secondary health care teams as appropriate.

Participate with home visits

Manage acute and chronic conditions, including drug and non-drug based treatment methods into a management plan

Request diagnostic investigations and interpret within agreed protocols e.g. x-ray, blood tests, scans, etc

Support the practice in achieving quality indicators and targets set out in the QOF, LES/DES, IIF and GMS contract.

Apply Practice policies, standards, and guidance.

Keep up to date with changes in clinical processes and new services.

Maintain communication and work effectively with others across primary and secondary care services when necessary.

Maintain accurate patient records.

Provide mentorship to the team.

Advise and support other team members of the team aiming towards common objectives.

Promote your own continuing professional development.

Complete all mandatory training

Deliver care in line with national and practice protocols, NSF, NICE guidelines, and evidence-based care

  • Triage and treat patients, performing specialist assessment of their needs and make referrals as necessary to other members of the primary and secondary health care teams as appropriate.
  • Participate with home visits
  • Co-ordinate the planning and delivery of care ensuring patients and carers/relatives are involved.
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions, including drug and non-drug based treatment methods into a management plan.
  • Request diagnostic investigations and interpret within agreed protocols e.g. x-ray, blood tests, scans, etc.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients in practice premises who require medical attention and/or refer to appropriate agency.

Undertake opportunistic screening when clinically required.

Recognise the signs of abuse in children and Adults, family violence, substance abuse, additive behaviours, and suicidal tendencies and be aware of local referral processes.

Fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risks in all areas of the practice. This will include risk assessments of situations, taking appropriate action and reporting all incidents, near misses and hazards.

  • All employees have a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions. Employees are required to co-operate with management to enable the practice to meet its own legal duties and to report any hazardous situations or defective equipment.
  • All employees are required to maintain the confidentiality of the public and members of staff in accordance with the Practice policies.
  • Update SOPs as necessary

To assist with the gathering of statistics and information when required.
